New Delhi: India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed short while ago that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between India and Pakistan following a call from the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan to his Indian counterpart.
The call, which took place at 3:35 PM, led to a mutual agreement to halt all hostilities — on land, air, and sea — effective from 5:00 PM today.
Foreign Secretary Misri stated, “Both sides have agreed to a complete cessation of firing across all domains. The next round of talks is scheduled for May 12, where further confidence-building measures and mechanisms for monitoring the ceasefire will be discussed.”
The announcement comes just hours after former U.S. President Donald J. Trump claimed credit for mediating between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, praising their leadership for showing “common sense and great intelligence.”
The ceasefire offers a rare moment of relief for residents living along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border, who have long suffered the consequences of intermittent cross-border firing. The development is being widely welcomed in Kashmir, where hopes for peace and stability have received a much-needed boost.
