GCC Condemns Rape and Murder of Tribal Woman in Srinagar, Calls for Fast-Track Justice

SRINAGAR: The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC), Jammu & Kashmir, has strongly condemned the horrific rape and murder of a tribal woman in Nishat, Srinagar, calling the crime “a grievous wound on the conscience of our society.”

In a statement issued to Ziraat Times on Tuesday, the GCC commended the Jammu & Kashmir Police for their swift action in apprehending the accused and urged authorities to ensure a fast-track investigation and trial. The group emphasized the need for the “severest punishment to the perpetrators” to serve as a powerful deterrent against such heinous acts.

“This tragic incident underscores the urgent need to address the underlying causes of rising crimes against women,” the GCC statement said. “It is our collective responsibility to foster a culture where women are respected, protected, and empowered.”

Appealing to civil society and communities at large, the GCC urged for solidarity in creating a safer environment for women, especially those from vulnerable communities.

The group expressed hope that justice will be delivered swiftly and in a manner that reaffirms the rule of law and societal commitment to the dignity and safety of all women.
