CBI arrests 2 PWD employees in J&K for accepting bribe

Jammu: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday said to have arrested two employees of PWD, Surankot for demanding and accepting separate bribe of Rs 20,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively from the complainant for processing and releasing complainant’s GPF.

“A case was registered by CBI on 05.05.2025 against accused Assistant Accounts Officer and Junior Assistant on allegations that both accused demanded bribe of Rs 30,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively from the complainant for processing and releasing complainant’s GPF of Rs 5,04,634. After negotiation, accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs 20,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively from the complainant,” a statement issued to media reads.

It reads that the CBI laid a trap on 06-05-2025 and caught the both accused red-handed for demanding and accepting a bribe a bribe of Rs 20,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively from the complainant.

“Later, both accused were arrested. They were produced before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Jammu on 07.05.2025 and were remanded to One day Police Custody,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the searches were conducted by CBI at the residential and official premises of the both accused at Poonch which led to recovery of some incriminating evidence, the statement reads, adding that investigation is going on. —(KNO)
