Outright ban on liquor could adversely impact J&K’s tourism sector: Tanvir Sadiq

SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) legislator Tanvir Sadiq has called for comprehensive consultations before implementing a liquor ban in Jammu and Kashmir, stressing the need to involve all relevant stakeholders.

Speaking to reporters here today, Sadiq highlighted the state’s dependence on tourism and warned that an outright ban on liquor could adversely impact the tourism sector. “Jammu and Kashmir is a tourist-driven economy, and we need to evaluate how such a move would affect tourists. Even many Arab countries have regulated alcohol availability systems,” he said.

He urged the government to consult all affected parties, including travel agents and tourism industry representatives, before making a final decision.

“While we oppose the liquor trade, stakeholder engagement—especially with those from the tourism sector—is essential,” Sadiq added.
