JKPICCA advocates for horticulture and industrial reforms in pre-Budget Meeting with Chief Minister

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Fruits and Vegetables Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA) attended the Pre-Budget 2025 consultation today with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alongside key stakeholders. The meeting, attended by JKPICCA President Bashir Ahmad Naik, General Secretary Mr. Malik Ishfaq, member Ubair Shah, and other representatives, focused on critical reforms for the Union Territory’s horticulture and industrial sectors.

Key Proposals Advocated

During the session, JKPICCA presented a comprehensive budget proposal aimed at revitalizing J&K’s economy. The following demands were highlighted for inclusion in the 2025-26 budget:

1. Crop Insurance Scheme:
– A dedicated insurance plan for horticulture, particularly apple crops, to mitigate farmer losses from climate and market risks.

2. Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Kashmir:
– Establishment of an ICD to streamline apple exports and reduce logistical bottlenecks.

3. Subsidized Agri-Input Outlets:
– Creation of block/tehsil-level outlets for affordable, quality pesticides and fertilizers.

4. Quality Control Infrastructure:
– Mobile inspection labs and flying squads to crack down on substandard agri-inputs.

5. Post-Harvest Infrastructure Development:
– Upgrading cold storage and processing facilities in North and Central Kashmir.

6. Industrial Estate Lassipora Revamp:
– Infrastructure improvements, including roads, drainage, lighting, security, and a 20-bed hospital.

7. Pulwama Sanitation Drive:
– Daily municipal housekeeping to enhance industrial and residential cleanliness.

8. Solar Energy Incentives:
– Subsidies for industries adopting renewable energy solutions.

9. 100% Insurance Subvention for Industries:
– Full government coverage of insurance premiums to safeguard industrial units.

10. Anti-Hail Cannon Support:
– Financial incentives for farmers to install anti-hail technology.

11. Funding for 26 CA Stores:
– Budgetary allocation for pending Controlled Atmosphere storage projects.
