Northern Railways announces new Jammu-based Division for J&K railways

Jammu: The Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has decided to create a new Jammu Division under Northern Railways. This decision, part of the reorganization of the Firozpur Division, aims to improve operational efficiency and boost rail connectivity in the region.

The new division will have its headquarters in Jammu and will cover a total of 742.1 route kilometers (RKM), including the following sections:

  1. Pathankot–Jammu–Udhampur (renamed Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan section)–Srinagar–Baramula (423 RKM)
  2. Bhogpur Sirwal–Pathankot (87.21 RKM)
  3. Batala (excluding)–Pathankot (68.17 RKM)
  4. Pathankot–Joginder Nagar (NG section) (163.72 RKM)

According to an official notification made available to Ziraat Times, the divisional headquarters office in Jammu will be set up as a modern, technology-driven facility, focusing on a lean organizational structure. Existing posts from Northern Railways will be utilized to staff the division, ensuring optimal use of resources.

The Ministry of Railways has requested the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to assess the infrastructure needs and organizational structure required for the new division. This report will also finalize the jurisdiction and modalities for staff transfers.
