Sunanda Sharma’s enchanting monsoon melodies shine at India Habitat Centre

New Delhi, Aug 30: Vidushi Sunanda Sharma, a renowned vocalist of the Banaras Gharana, captivated audiences with her enchanting performance titled ‘Boondan Phuhaar’ on Thursday, August 29, at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The event, organized by the Girija Darshan Trust, offered a soulful celebration of the monsoon season through the evocative melodies of Indian classical music.

The concert featured an impressive ensemble of musicians, including Pt. Vinay Mishra on the harmonium, Pt. Mithilesh Kumar Jha on the tabla, and Ustad  Ghulam Ali on the sarangi, who together created an immersive experience, embodying the spirit of the rains.

During the event, Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, praised the concert, saying, “The Monsoon Music Fest Boondan Phuhar was a beautiful celebration of Indian classical music. Varanasi, a city steeped in history and culture, remains a testament to India’s enduring spirit. Girija ji has been a tremendous guiding star for preserving and promoting the rich musical and artistic heritage of Banaras.”

Kusum Awasthi, former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, reflected on the event’s success, stating, “Putting together this event has been a truly beautiful journey. Sunanda is a guru to me, and watching her meticulously carry the torch of this legacy forward is a true blessing.”

Sunanda Sharma, whose performances have enthralled audiences globally, shared her thoughts, saying, “Music is a beautiful path of life, and celebrating nature with music is a blissful opportunity.” Her deep-rooted training in the Guru-Shishya Parampara has honed her artistry to perfection, which was evident in this concert.

The ‘Boondan Phuhaar’ concert sought to encapsulate the essence of the monsoon, with Sharma’s melodious voice transporting the audience to a realm of tranquility and enchantment. The Girija Darshan Trust, founded by Sunanda Sharma, is committed to preserving and promoting the legacy of Indian classical music. Named in honor of her Gurus, Smt. Girija Devi and Pt. Sudarshan Sharma, the trust aims to nurture young talent and provide platforms for established artists to showcase their brilliance.
