Budgam, 12 Aug: The Social Forestry Department, Budgam, in collaboration with the Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK), conducted a plantation drive themed “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at Salsabeel Educational Institute, Humhama. The event emphasised the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability among the youth.
The drive was led by G N Var, President of PSAJK, with Chief Agriculture Scientist and Environmentalist Prof. Dr. Hussain Shah as the Guest of Honour. Other notable participants included Mohd Maqbool Lone, Range Forest Officer, Budgam, Abdul Majeed Parray from the Social Forestry Department, and officials from the Education and Health Departments.
Teachers and students of Salsabeel Educational Institute actively participated, taking an oath to continue their efforts in tree planting and environmental preservation.
G N Var emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “Today’s plantation drive is not just about planting trees; it’s about planting hope for a sustainable future. Every tree we plant today is a step towards a healthier environment for future generations.”
Range Officer Mohd Maqbool Lone highlighted the department’s dedication to increasing green cover in Budgam and praised the collaboration with PSAJK for strengthening their mission.
Prof. Dr. Hussain Shah lauded the initiative, noting, “The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative beautifully encapsulates our duty towards Mother Nature. I commend the Social Forestry Department and PSAJK for this noble endeavor.”
Principal of Salsabeel Educational Institute, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, expressed pride in hosting the event, reflecting the institute’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
Health Department Official Dr. Ravinder Singh emphasized the health benefits of green spaces, while Education Department Official Damesh Singh underscored the role of educational institutions in promoting sustainability.
