Srinagar, Aug 30: A delegation led by Rahul Sahai, Chair of PHDCCI Jammu, met with Devansh Yadav, Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), to discuss the overall development of Jammu City. During the meeting, Sahai congratulated Yadav on his recent appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership, suggesting that under Yadav’s direction, JMC would achieve new milestones.
According to a press statement issued to Ziraat Times, the delegation submitted several key proposals aimed at improving city management and enhancing the quality of life for residents. These included the introduction of an automated waste collection service accessible via an app, the formation of a JMC Advisory Panel composed of retired engineers and community leaders, and the establishment of a robust customer care system with real-time apps and toll-free numbers to handle public grievances efficiently.
Further discussions highlighted the need for a review of Jammu’s ongoing Smart City projects, with specific concerns raised about the narrowing of streets in areas like Gandhi Nagar due to poorly planned footpath installations. The delegation suggested organizing public sessions to showcase completed Smart City projects, fostering transparency and public accountability.
Sahai also recommended organizing educational sessions to familiarize the public with the newly notified unified bye-laws under RERA guidelines, especially for those involved in land plotting. He emphasized the expansion of e-bus routes to better serve industrial zones and employment hubs, and called for urgent attention to the Tawi Lake Project, particularly in managing the nallahs that could affect water quality.
The delegation raised concerns about the deteriorating conditions in Transport Nagar, citing a lack of sanitation services and rampant encroachments. They urged immediate action through anti-encroachment drives and the improvement of street lighting and public facilities.
Other suggestions included the implementation of smart lighting systems throughout the city, better waste collection from gardens and parks, and regular fogging during the monsoon season to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. The delegation also highlighted the severe water crisis in parts of Trikuta Nagar, urging the planning of a new pumping station as a long-term solution.
In response, Yadav assured the delegation of his commitment to addressing these issues, with the delegation expressing confidence in his ability to bring substantial improvements to Jammu.
