Advantage J&K farmers? Centre likely to announce National Mission on Oilseeds as part of its 100-days program

Srinagar: The Union government’s 100 days programme, is likely to include launching the much-awaited National Mission on Oilseeds under which the Agriculture Ministry targets to raise domestic oilseeds production by additional 2-3 million tonnes (mt) by 2025-26 from current about 40-41 mt and to further lower India’s import dependency on edible oils.

The move is aimed at reducing India’s acute dependency on edible oils imports which eats up a large chunk of foreign exchange for the country.

If kickstart, and backed by a strong value addition program, J&K’s farmers are expected to benefit from this move as spring time cultivation of mustard has picked up lately with good returns.

This story is a developing one and Ziraat Times will share more details on this once the mission is announced.
