Batwara boat accident could have been averted if bridge construction not delayed: RTI Movement

Srinagar, 17 April: Jammu and Kashmir RTI Movement has expressed deep anguish over the loss of life espicially school going kids in the boat capsizing tragedy at Gandabal yesterday.

It is a tragic and inconsolable loss which could have been averted mentioned Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat in a statement issued to press. No words are enough to express the pain and grief over the loss Dr Muzaffar added .

We express condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the lost lives .

We believe that this tragic incident could have been averted had there been no delay in construction of bridge which has been delayed for the last 15 years because of unknown reasons .

We appeal the honourable LG to initiate enquiry, complete the construction of bridge on war footing basis and also deploy some boats of SDRF /NDRF in that patch so that the rescue operations are conducted on time should there be any such eventuality in future.

We have been pressing for taking elected representatives and civil society to be taken on board before initiating any developmental or beautification work but but the same has been ignored not only by the present dispensation but previous active governments as well.
