After Jumatul Vida, Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid closed on eve of Holy Shab-e-Qadr

SRINAGAR: The historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar has been closed on the eve of the auspicious Muslim night of Shab-e-Qadr by the authorities, Anjuman Auqaf, the mosque’s management,  said on Saturday.

The mosque was also closed yesterday for Jumatul Vida prayers, which is a prayer of high reverance among Muslims on the last Friday of Ramzan.

In a media statement, Anjuman Auqaf said that following Asr prayers, the authorities closed the gates of Jama Masjid while the police asked people to vacate the mosque premises.

The statement reads that the Auqaf was informed that the observance of Taraweeh or Shab Khani on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Qadr will not be permitted at the Jama Masjid.

Meanwhile, its said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was again placed under house arrest earlier this afternoon. Auqaf expressed disappointment over the decision.
