Ahead of Ramadan, Kashmir markets wear festive look

Srinagar, Mar 9: As the auspicious month of Ramadan for Muslims is approaching, the markets across Kashmir Valley, especially in Srinagar City, have come alive with a joyous atmosphere as the people were seen buying essentials to embrace the month of blessings.

Shops are adorned with colorful decorations and the aroma of traditional delicacies fills the air, creating an ambiance of warmth and togetherness.

“Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal and community bonding,” says Sahil, a local resident of Srinagar, adding the bustling markets and the sight of families shopping together evoke a sense of joy and unity.

Shopkeepers, too, are gearing up for the holy month, ensuring ample stocks of essential items like dates, a staple commodity during Ramadan. “Dates hold special significance during Ramadan,” added a shopkeeper, who has his shop in the center of the city Lal Chowk, Srinagar.

“Dates are not just a food item; they symbolize the spiritual nourishment that Ramadan brings,” says Bilal, another shopkeeper.

Moreover, as the countdown to Ramadan begins, the fervor and excitement among the people of Kashmir Valley continues to grow.
