KTMF raises concerns over Srinagar road widening impact on local businesses

Srinagar, 14 Feb: Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has expressed its apprehensions regarding the proposed road widening project in Srinagar in general & downtown in particular. A general meeting of scores of Bazar committees from downtown and adjoining areas today called on its acting President Mohammad Yaseen Khan at its main central office to discuss various ramifications regarding the said project.

While acknowledging the importance of infrastructure development for the region’s progress, Mohammad Yaseen Khan said we underscore the potential adverse effects this project could have on local businesses, particularly shops along the affected route. To institute proactive measures for the rehabilitation of local shopkeepers affected by the impending widening of roads we urge government to understand the challenges faced by local shopkeepers due to the upcoming infrastructure project.

Khan said,”in light of above concern we urge government to consider relocation & compensation before moving forward with the road widening initiative. KTMF emphasizes the importance of balancing infrastructure development with the preservation of local economic interests. We call upon the government to heed our concerns and work collaboratively with stakeholders to address the challenges posed by the road widening project. We underscore the necessity of a meticulously devised plan to support and relocate businesses that will be impacted by the expansion. We emphasizes the socio-economic fabric that local businesses contribute to the community, playing a pivotal role in the livelihoods of numerous individuals.
