Chennai – In a landmark visit to two of India’s economic powerhouses, UK Minister of State Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon announced a series of initiatives aimed at deepening trade and innovation partnerships between the two nations. According to a media statement issued to Ziraat Times, his three-day tour focused on sustainability projects, business ventures, and academic collaborations, underscoring the growing synergy between the UK and India.

Sustainability in Focus:

Lord Ahmad’s visit kicked off with the launch of two UK-funded sustainability projects in Tamil Nadu. Partnering with the state’s Planning Commission, he unveiled a Heat Mitigation project designed to combat extreme heat-related deaths and ecosystem loss. Additionally, a collaboration with the Department of Environment and Climate Change will see the development of an Electronic and Battery Waste Management plan to tackle battery waste effectively.

Strengthening Economic Bonds:

Recognizing the economic clout of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, Lord Ahmad emphasized the robust UK-India trade partnership. He expressed enthusiasm for exploring new avenues for collaboration, particularly in clean energy growth. This ambition aligns with his keynote speech at the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (TNGIM), where he showcased successful UK-India projects in climate and energy.

Showcasing British Innovation:

Lord Ahmad further championed British businesses at a GREAT reception during his visit. This platform served to highlight the contributions of UK companies in fostering clean growth within India. His presence at the vibrant Gujarat Investors’ Summit further solidified the deep cultural and economic ties between the two nations.

The UK’s commitment to fostering innovation in India was further evidenced by the signing of an MoU between Abertay University and École Intuit Lab. Witnessing this historic moment, Lord Ahmad emphasized the importance of sharing teaching, research, and innovation expertise to nurture future generations of skilled professionals.
