Grand New Year celebrations held at  Pahalgam; hotel bookings at 70%

Pahalgam, Jan 1: The J&K Tourism Department held vibrant New Year celebrations at four different locations in the famous tourist destination, Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Officials said that celebrations were held at Aru, Betaab Valley, Pahalgam Club and Old TRC, which drew huge crowds. They said the goal was to attract more visitors to Pahalgam throughout the year.

CEO of Pahalgam Development Authority, Tariq Ahmad Naik, expressed satisfaction with the enthusiastic conclusion of the New Year celebrations. He said all four venues witnessed fireworks and musical performances.

The main function, held at the Club, witnessed the participation of hundreds of tourists. The weeklong festivities not only celebrated the arrival of the new year but also aimed to promote Pahalgam as a dynamic destination, he said, adding that Kashmiri Kehwa, local cuisine, and handicrafts were also showcased and received appreciation from tourists.

Naik expressed optimism about the winter season, saying they anticipate a good influx of tourists with the onset of snowfall. “Activities and events are planned to attract visitors once the snow blankets the region. Currently, a significant number of tourists are enjoying Pahalgam, with 50-70 percent of hotels offering proper heating arrangements,” he said.

Stakeholders in Pahalgam are all set to extend a warm welcome to tourists, the CEO, PDA said. He urged tourists to be part of the vibrant atmosphere by exploring the natural beauty, hospitality of the locals, and diverse cuisine of Kashmir.

Tourists and locals were seen enjoying the musical performances of noted artists and other activities.

Sheetal, a tourist from Hyderabad, said Kashmir is beautiful in all seasons. She praised the warmth and helpful nature of the local people.

Having come along with her family has to celebrate the new year, she said. “It was amazing to see local artists performing. We also enjoyed cuisines and celebrated with locals here.”—(KNO)
