J&K flags off first non-timber forest produce under National Transit Pass System

Srinagar, Dec 29: The Union Minister MoEFCC Govt. of India, Bhupinder Yadav flagged off one truck carrying Bankakri from Srinagar to Pune under the National Transit Pass System (NTPS) online from Indira Paryavaran Bhavan, New Delhi today on 29th December 2023. The programme at Srinagar was attended by Dheeraj Gupta Addl. Chief Secretary to Government, Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment Department, Roshan Jaggi PCCF & HoFF, J&K, T. Rabi Kumar Addl. PCCF Kashmir, Irfan Ali Shah CF South, Zubair Ahmad CF Srinagar and senior officers of the Forest Department, an official statement received by Ziraat Times said.

Pertinently, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir amended its Forest Produce Transit Rules vide SO 22 of 2022 dated 19th January, 2022 paving the way for implementation of National Transit Permit System Portal for inter-state/ intra-state movement of forest produce developed by MoEFCC, Govt. of India. NTPS Portal was rolled out in J&K on 16th February, 2023.  J&K has become the first UT & the third UT / State to implement NTPS in the Country. So far, about 600 permits have been generated in J&K under NTPS for the transportation of forest produce.

The vehicle from Srinagar, as a demonstration, of the NTPS permit will pass through the States of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and reach the destination of Pune, Maharashtra.
National Transit Pass System is a National Portal for inter-State / intra- State movement of timber & other Forest produce. It has been designed to facilitate the online issuance of Transit Permit for Pan India Movement of Forest Produce.This initiative by Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate change, GOI of replacing manual Transit System with online system is part of ease of doing business initiatives by Government as it enhances efficiency, transparency, accountability & reduces turn-around time for activity.
