Direct tax collections up 21%; income tax collection at Rs 6.73 lakh crore

New Delhi, Dec 18: The government’s direct tax collections, adjusted for refunds, stood at Rs 13.70 trillion till December 17 in the current fiscal year, which is 20.7% higher year-on-year, the finance ministry said in a release on Monday.

Collections from corporation tax stood at Rs 6.95 trillion, and that from personal income tax (PIT) – including securities transaction tax (STT) – stood at Rs 6.73 trillion. Refunds issued during the period stood at Rs 2.25 trillion.

The  mop-up of direct taxes before adjusting for refunds for the period stood at Rs 15.96 trillion, 17% higher year-on-year. Within the gross collections – advance tax mop-up stood at Rs 6.25 trillion, TDS at Rs 7.71 trillion, and self-assessment tax at Rs 1.49 trillion. Gross corporation tax and PIT was at Rs 7.90 trillion and Rs 8.03 trillion in April 1 – December 17, respectively.
