Enhancing micro food processing: Srinagar hosts PM-FME workshop

Srinagar, Aug 6: Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing (HP&M) today organised a day long awareness workshop on Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro-food Processing Enterprises (PM-FME) Scheme at Srinagar.

Secretary in Agriculture Production Department, Shabnam Shah Kamili, Managing Director JKHPMC Imam-ud-din, Special Secretary APD, Farooq Ahmad Dar, State Coordinator/ Manager Branding and Marketing for J&K, Neha Ganju, Young Professional Technical Ritika Khattar, district nodal officers, representatives from banks, farmers and beneficiaries of the PMFME Scheme attended the workshop.

The centrally sponsored PM FME scheme aims at providing financial, technical and business support for upgradation of existing micro food processing enterprises.
Speaking on the occasion Secretary APD impressed upon the officers to take substantial steps in succesful implementation of the scheme. She said that the number of registrations and sanctioning of cases under the scheme needs to be ramped up for its successful implementation.

Kamili said that JK has a huge potential owing to the large number of unique products which paves the way for upgradation of micro food processing units.

She further emphasized the importance of coordination between departments and banks to ensure the successful implementation of the PMFME scheme. He urged officers to work diligently to minimize loan rejections.

She also highlighted the need for bankers to be approachable and friendly towards PMFME applicants. She said that banks need to expedite the pending loan applications so that the beneficiaries don’t have to wait.

At the outset Special Secretary APD, gave an overview of the scheme and the support provided by the department to the beneficiaries.

He also gave a PowerPoint presentation in which the role of the scheme, respective capacity building measures, subsidies, use of common infrastructure and Common Incubation Centres etc were highlighted.
