Animal Husbandry Dept Jammu celebrates World Veterinary Day, 2023

Jammu, April 29: A day-long seminar was organised by Animal Husbandry Department Jammu here at Kisan Kendra, Talab Tillo Jammu on the occasion of World Veterinary Day, 2023. Director Animal Husbandry Jammu Dr. Shubhra Sharma (JKAS) was the chief guest on the occasion. Senior functionaries of the department, district and sectoral officers and paravets also participated in the said event. On the occasion the experts from SKUAST-Jammu and officers from the Animal Husbandry Department Jammu delivered lectures highlighting the significant contributions. made by veterinarians towards animal health and well being, public health and environment protection with emphasis over One Health concept. The World Veterinary Day is celebrated globally every year on the last Saturday of April to raise awareness about the importance of veterinarians and their contributions to animal welfare and public health.

The theme for this year’s World Veterinary Day is “Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in the veterinary profession”, to advocate for the fairness and equity of the efforts of veterinarians and other stakeholders.

The Director Animal Husbandry Jammu in her address lauded the efforts of the veterinarians and para-veterinarians in improving animal health and welfare, food safety and environment protection. “The veterinary professionals have a fundamental role in society for well being of human and animal population”, she added.

On the occasion Certificates of Appreciation were also handed over to officers/officials of the department by the Director Animal Husbandry Jammu for their immense contributions in promotion of Animal Husbandry sector.

Earlier the Director Animal Husbandry inaugurated free Anti-Rabies vaccination camp for pets at Central Veterinary Hospital, Talab Tillo, Jammu. On the occasion pet owners were educated about the importance of proper vaccinations and dewormings in pets for keeping them safe from various life threatening diseases.
