Tosamaidan Development Fourm carries out cleanliness drive at Dodhpathri

Srinagar, July 30: Tosamaidan Development Fourm carried out a  cleanliness drive, as part of Save the Earth from plastic pollution, at Doodhpathri Budgam.

The Forum members, while carrying out the cleanliness and removing of garbage mainly plastics at and in the meadows of Doodhpathri, appealed the tourists and local people there not to litter their surroundings with wrappers of chips and plastic bottles and other waste on the roads and meadows, the Forum said in a statement to Ziraat Times.

The drive also aims to achieve neat and clean tourist destinations of District Budgam which attract a good number of goreign and domestic tourists.

Participating in the cleanliness drive Sheikh Maqbool Chief Spokesperson Tosamaidan Development Fourm said harmful plastic products are a threat to the environment and all living beings. He further said that plastic products also pose hurdle in segregation of domestic waste and their management. He stressed the need of developed comprehensive action plan for elimination of single use plastics and effective implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.

Through this campaign we are not only organizing clean Doodhpathri but also generating awareness about clean and healthy surroundings of all Toursim Destinations like Tosamadian and Yousmarg, said Sheikh Majeed, Secretary, TDF.

The earth, the air, the land, and the water are not an inheritance from our forefathers but on loan from our children. So we have to hand over to them at least as it was handed over to us Sheikh Majeed added.

There are plenty of technical challenges, we need to develop new solutions for recycling the plastic what is actually recycled is lower because of the lack of infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir said Maik Hamid, Media Coodinator TDF. There also needs to be technical innovation and new solutions to make collecting and reprocessing materials commercially viable, Mailk added
