KCCI elections: Spokesperson welcomes J&K High Court order

Srinagar, May 11: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) – the apex level representative body of major business and commerce associations and entities of Kashmir – has welcomed the J&K High Court order on the conduct of the chamber’s elections.

Farooq Amin, KCCI spokesperson and a prominent businessman, while welcoming the order, told Ziraat Times that the existing management body of the chamber would provide all its support and cooperation in the smooth conduct of the elections.

“We believe that this development has come at a right time, and we welcome this move”, Mr Farooq said.

Pertinently, J&K High Court in an order issued today after hearing the parties on the rationale of the conduct of elections to KCCI ordered that “given the submissions made by learned counsel for parties”, and said ‘it is reiterated and directed that the elections of KCCI shall be conducted and concluded within a month from today and in this regard Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, shall take all steps and ensure conclusion of elections within one month, and report accordingly.’

The order was passed by Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul in a case regarding the conduct of elections to KCCI, titled – Sheikh Ashiq Ahmed and others through Advocate M. A. Qayoom and Advocate M Muzaffar versus Zubair Mahajan and others through Advocate Syed Faisal Qadri and Advocate Umar.
