J&K Govt de-registers all societies registered under SRA, 1998

Srinagar, Dec 22: J&K Administration has issued a fresh notification declaring that all the societies registered under the erstwhile J&K Societies Registration Act 1998, which have not applied for re-registration under the Central Societies Registration Act 1860, stand de-registered.

In a notification issued by the Registrar of Societies/Firms, Directorate of Industries and Commerce, a copy of which has been obtained by Ziraat Times, the government said that ‘all the Societies registered under the erstwhile J&K Societies Registration Act 1998, which have not applied for re-registration under the Societies Registration Act 1860, are deemed to have been de-registered with immediate effect. However, the said entities shall be accountable for liabilities attributed to them.’

J&K Societies Registration Act, 1998 (Samvat)-1941 AD was repealed and the corresponding Central Societies Registration Act 1860 was made applicable as per the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organization Act 2019.

Thereafter, as per the Administrative Department’s order number IND/DIC-169/2007 dated 19-04-2021, all the societies registered before 31-10-2019 under the erstwhile J&K Societies Registration Act 1998, were required to get re-registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860. Accordingly, all these societies were intimated, through public notices from April 20, 2021 to December 7, 2021, for submission of the requisite documents for re-registration till December 18, 2021, which was the last date for the same.
