J&K all set for 1-4 feet of snowfall: ZT detailed weather outlook

Srinagar, Dec 22: The Kashmir region, including the sub-regions of Chenab and Pirpanjal valleys, Kargil-Zanaskar regions in Ladakh, are likely to witness season’s major snowfall on the New Year’s eve. 

According to Ziraat Times Weather Outlook, while a minor weather system is likely to result in scattered snowfall on Thursday and Friday in parts of Kashmir valley and upper parts of Chenab and Pirpanjal valleys, a major weather system is likely to result in heavy snowfall in these regions between Sunday and Wednesday.

Based on the analysis of multiple data by Ziraat Times related to the possible extent of cloud cover and  density, wind speeds and direction probabilities, humidity and temperature differentials, here is the detailed weather outlook:

Thursday, 23rd December – Parts of Kashmir region, including outer Himalayas parts, north and South Kashmir mountains, upper Kishtwar-Bhaderwah belt likely to witness light to moderate snowfall.

Friday 24th December – Snowfall is likely again in upper parts of Kashmir valley and upper Chenab valley areas mainly Upper Kishtwar, Upper Bhaderwah, Wadwan and surrounding areas of Kolohoi Glacier and upper Pahalgam.

Some precipitation is likely in Kashmir valley plains as well on Saturday.

Sunday – Wednesday (26 – 29 December) 

On Sunday snowfall is likely to start across parts of South Kashmir  including Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts, particularly Verinag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Damhal Hanjipora, Kapran, Shopian, Pir ki Gali, Bafliaz areas.

Snowfall is then likely to cover most of Kashmir valley, Chenab, Upper Pirpanchal areas and other winter zone areas of Jammu division. Kargil, Drass, Zanaskar and parts of Ladakh are also likely to experience moderate to heavy snowfall.

Ziraat Times’ detailed precipitation outlook  for Kashmir and Jammu winter zone regions upto 29 December is as follows: 

North Kashmir areas of Baramulla, Rafiabad, Sopore, Bandipora, Lolab Valley, Razdan Pass, Gurez, Kupwara, Sadhna Pass are likely to receive rainfall and snowfall ranging between 1.5 feet to 3 feet.

Central Kashmir valley plains, including Srinagar city, Zabarwan range, Dara-Harwan, Dachigam Park and Mahadev mountain areas, Tral-Shikargah areas, Ganderbal, Kangan, Sindh valley and Sonamarg are likely to receive 1 foot to 3 feet of snowfall.

The Southern parts of Kashmir valley in Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts, from Verinag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Damhal Hanjipora, Kapran, Shopian, Pir ki Gali, Bafliaz areas would receive between one foot to 3 feet of snow.

Pirpanjal mountain range and karewa areas in Budgam, Pulwama, Baramulla districts along the range from Yusmarg, Gulmarg and Kandi Baramulla would receive 1 foot to 4 feet of snowfall.

Upper Bhaderwah, Upper Kishtwar, upper Doda, Sinthan Top, Margan Top and Wadwan valley would receive snowfall between 2 feet to 4 feet.

Banihal, Patnitop, upper parts of Ramban, upper Rajouri and Poonch would receive snowfall  ranging between 1.5 feet to 2 feet.

Jammu plains are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall during this period.

Thursday onwards precipitation is likely to subside with extreme cold conditions across Kashmir and Jammu regions.
