UP govt allows Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi to visit Lakhimpur Kheri

Lucknow, Oct 6: The Uttar Pradesh government has allowed Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi along with three others to visit Lakhimpur Kheri.

UP’s ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar stated that people have been allowed to visit Lakhimpur Kheri in groups of five. “The Government has no intention of restricting anyone’s movement. Whatever restrictions were imposed, they were just to maintain peace,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi and Chief Ministers Bhupesh Baghel and Charanjit Singh Channi have left for Lucknow, from where they intend to go to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the families of the victims of the violence. Before leaving, Gandhi said farmers were being “systematically attacked” in the country, and targeted the government for “insulting” them.

In other news, MoS Mishra, arrived at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi just after noon. According to PTI, Mishra met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence and is believed to have briefed him about Sunday’s incident.
