NIFT’s Ompura campus to be largest in the country

Srinagar, Sep 8: Being built at an estimated cost of Rs 326 crores, the upcoming NIFT Srinagar campus shall be the largest campus out of 17 existing campuses in the country.

The institute is currently operating from its temporary campus at Rangreth, Srinagar and is offering two UG programs viz Fashion Design and Fashion Communication.

This was disclosed during a visit of Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan to the new campus of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here at Ompora, Budgam.

The Advisor directed the Administration and the Executing agency to complete all the civil works of the campus forthwith. Baseer Khan impressed upon the officers to work in double shifts so that the campus is ready for operations from the next academic session. He directed them to take in hand the electrification and sanitary works simultaneously so that maximum work is accomplished within the least possible time.

The campus is fully residential with a hostel facility for 720 students and 100 staff quarters. The construction work shall be completed in March, 2022 as was revealed on the occasion by the administration of the National Institute.

The Advisor asked them to fix a timeline against each component of the work and complete a few blocks so that gradual shifting of the Institute is taken in hand immediately. He also exhorted upon them to ensure making the campus functional from the month of October and culminate the process by March. He directed them to have dedicated work force with strict targets so that the stipulated time line is adhered to.

Director, NIFT, Dr Javid Ahmad Wani informed the Advisor that it is a prestigious project of national importance to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 326 Crores. He further said that NIFT Srinagar shall be the largest campus out of 17 existing campuses in the country.

It was also given out that the institute is currently operating from its temporary campus at Rangreth, Srinagar and is offering two UG programs viz Fashion Design and Fashion Communication. It was further said that once shifted to a permanent campus at Ompora, Budgam, the Institute shall offer additional four programs namely MFM, M Des and B Des Textile Design and B. Des Accessory Design.

The Advisor was also apprised that the campus shall have facilities of Auditorium with a seating capacity of 830 and a facility of Amphitheatre etc. It was added that these facilities shall be available to other stakeholders also for organizing events and functions in the facilities created within the campus.
