KVK Nyoma celebrates 6th Kissan Mela in Changthang, Leh

Leh, Aug 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SKUAST-K, Nyoma, celebrated two-day 6th Kisan Mela at Nyoma on 25 th and 26 th August 2021, presided by Vice-Chancellor Prof JP Sharma, Guest of Honour, on August 25, 2021. Director Extension SKUAST-K Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi chaired the function. About 150 farmers attended the event.

On the second day, Executive Councilors, LAHDC, Leh Shri Stanzin Chospel, and Shri Tashi Yackzi were the Chief Guests, Ravinder Kumar; Secretary Argi/Horti UT Ladakh was the Guest of Honor.

Farmers about 250 in number and village heads (gobas/sarpanches) from different clusters and Tibetan Refugees Camps of Changthang region attended the event and brought their produces which include other types of vegetable, cereal, oilseed, handloom, flowers, fruits and fodder crops) for the exhibition.

Dr. Jigmet Yangchan (Head, KVK Nyoma) enlisted the achievements of the said center and gave recommendations keeping in view the extraordinary conditions of the Changthang region. Ravinder Kumar, the Guest of Honor, appreciated the farmers for cultivating a variety of vegetables and raising healthy animals, which was earlier being heard as impossible in the Changthang region, and congratulated the scientific team of KVK Nyoma for their selfless work.

Stanzin Chospel and Tashi Yackzi said that they were amazed to see a variety of exhibits of the farmers and stressed them to maintain the organic practice, which is also the vision of LAHDC, Leh. Later prizes were distributed among the toppers of the exhibition. On occasion, the other dignitaries were Dr. Dorjay Namgyal (ADR&E, HMAARI SKUAST-K, Leh), Dr. Shahnawaz Rasool Dar (Head, KVK Zanskar, SKUAST-K), HOD’s from different departments. The scientific and technical staff of KVK, Nyoma viz. Dr. Arif Ahmad Pandit (SMS Animal Science), Dr. Anwar Hussain (SMS, Food Technology), Dr. Tashi Dolker (SMS, Home Science), and Mr. Dinesh Kumar (Stenographer) were also present on occasion.
