Anantnag, Aug 9: BJP’s Kisan Morcha District President for Kulgam, Ghulam Rasool Dar and his wife were shot dead by gunmen in their rented accommodation in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday late afternoon.
Meanwhile, LG Manoj Sinha has condemned the killings and, in a tweet, said that the perpetrators ‘will be brought to justice very soon.’
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and other mainstream politicians and leaders have also condemned the killings.
BJP Spokesperson for J&K Altaf Thakur said that Ghulam Rasool Dar was a senior BJP leader who besides being a Sarpanch Redwani Kulgam was District President BJP Kisan Morcha. He said Dar and his wife were killed in rented accommodation.
Local sources said a couple of gunmen barged into the rented accommodation of Ghulam Rasool Dar and resorted to indiscriminate firing. In the attack, Dar and his wife Jawahira sustained bullet injuries and possibly died on the spot.
The couple were shifted to hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
Mr Dar was a retired government school headmaster. The couple is survived by three issues who are all married and settled with their families.
