CBI registers cases against two Kashmir firms for Shahtoosh shawl exports

Srinagar, July 29: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered two separate cases on complaints from Customs Departments against two private firms based at Srinagar & Delhi and others, including a proprietor of a private firm based at Srinagar. The cases have been registered on the allegations of illegal export of 32 (26+6) shawls containing Guard hair of Tibetan Antelope (Shahtoosh).
The two cases registered are against the Craft Harvest and its proprietor and Shabir Ahmad Gojree and his firm Cashmere Fine Arts for exporting prohibited wildlife articles, “shawls containing guard hair of Tibetan Antelope”.
The export of such wild life material is prohibited under the provisions of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, an official said.
Searches were conducted in the premises of both the firms in New Delhi and Srinagar which led to recovery of 4 shawls and incriminating documents. Investigation of both the cases is in progress.
