Soli Sorabjee, 91, who supported Article 370 abrogation, dies of Covid19

New Delhi: Soli Jehangir Sorabjee, a veteran lawyer, former Attorney General of India and a Padma Vibhushan recipient, passed away on Friday morning after being infected with Covid-19.

Soli Sorabjee had been a key supporters of the abrogation of Article 370 and had called the abrogation move as completely constitutional.

Soli Sorabjee passed away at the age of 91 after being admitted to a private hospital in South Delhi for treatment of the Covid-19 infection.

Soli Sorabjee began his legal career in 1953 at the Bombay High Court. He was designated a senior advocate by the Supreme Court of India in 1971 and went on to become the Attorney General of India. Sorabjee served as the Attorney General from 1989-90 and then from 1998-2004.

In March 2002, Soli Sorabjee was honored with the Padma Vibhushan for his work to defend freedom of speech and human rights.
