Srinagar to have Metro Rail soon; project sent for centre’s approval: LG Sinha

Srinagar, Mar 1: The government on Monday said that Metro Rail services will be introduced in Srinagar very soon, adding that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has sanctioned it and the same has been sent for the approval of the central government.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function here said that the cities of Jammu and Srinagar as Smart Cities will see many projects, including modern car parkings, etc.

“Under the Smart City initiative, there are many projects which would come up very soon,” he said, adding that the State Administrative Council had sanctioned the project of metro rail in Srinagar and the same has been sent for approval to central government.

“I hope the cabinet in centre would approve the project at the earliest,” he said.

He also stated that it was ‘for the first that people in Kashmir have had electricity during snowfall’.
