J&K’s annual budget to be presented in Parliament today

 

Srinagar, Mar 17: Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory’s budget is set to be presented in the Parliament on Wednesday, official sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the budget estimates for 2021- 22 and revised estimates for 2020-21 in Lok Sabha today.

According to reports, Finance Commissioner, Finance Department, Arun Kumar Mehta, Director General, Budget, Muhammad Yaqoob Itoo, Deputy Director, Budget, Shafat Yehya and Deputy Director, Budget, Javeed Maqbool Khanday are in New Delhi.

This will be the second time when the newly-creared UT’s budget would be presented in the Parliament.

The budget is being presented in the Parliament as J&K is currently without its Assembly and the Parliament exercises its law-making powers.

Under the J&K Reorganisation Act, powers of J&K Assembly will be exercised by the Parliament in the absence of an elected government in the UT.
