India reports 62,714 Covid cases, over 300 deaths in a day

Srinagar: In a continued upward trend, India reported 62714 new coronavirus cases and 312 deaths in the last 24 hours.

India’s total caseload of coronavirus cases stands at 11,908,910, while the current Covid-19 death toll is 161,586. Coronavirus cases in the country are rising at a rate not seen since May last year, indicating that India’s second Covid-19 wave may be worse than the first wave despite the ongoing vaccination drive.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2,637,735), Kerala (1,113,722), Karnataka (981,044), Andhra Pradesh (896,863), and Tamil Nadu (875,190).

Delhi govt puts cap on number of guests at marriage amid rising Covid-19 cases

 

In view of the recent surge in coronavirus cases in the national capital, the Delhi government on Saturday put a cap of 200 guests in marriage and other events at open-air venues and of 100 people for closed spaces in the city. In an order, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev said not more than 50 people will be allowed at funerals in the national capital.
Dev, who is also the chairperson of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA) state executive committee, said the order will be in force till April 30. He, however, said status quo will be maintained regarding current permissible and prohibited activities in the city.
World coronavirus update: Coronavirus cases rise unabated across the globe with 127,264,763 infected by the deadly contagion. While 102,550,391 have recovered, 2,788,799 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 30,917,130 cases, followed by Brazil, India, Russia and France.
