Agri Dept organises Kissan Mela at Uri

Uri, 18 March: An effective coordination between the functionaries of Agriculture department and the farmers can realize the objective of enhancing of the production & productivity of various crops.

This was stated by Director Agriculture Kashmir Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal while inaugurating a Kissan Mela at Uri, Baramulla. The mela was organized by Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department, Sub- Division Uri.

Chowdhary Iqbal said that the use of modern technology and quality Agriculture inputs could take the nation towards self sufficiency. He said that there is lot of potential for mushroom, vegetable, flower cultivation & bee keeping in the District and urged the farmers and unemployed youth to take up this income generating activities for their economic upliftment.

He urged upon the field functionaries of the department to provide required expertise and other inputs to the farmers so that the goal of doubling farmers income by 2022 is achieved. He also called upon farmers to come forward to avail the benefits of farm friendly schemes being implemented by the agriculture and allied departments. He added that for the economic prosperity and upliftment of the farmers various initiatives are being taken by the department.

Regarding Kissan Credit Cards, he impressed upon the officials of Agriculture department to gear up their agencies and complete the cent % targets.

On this occasion Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer, Mohammad Ali Lone presented a detailed overview of the Sub-Division and said all expertise is being utilized for the development of Mushroom cultivation, exotic vegetables, farm mechanization, introduction of sweet corn maize besides organizing various training camps and Kisan Ghoshties in the Sub Division.

Chairman DDC, BDC’s appreciated the role of Agriculture Department for reaching out to the farthest farmers of the sub-division and applauded the field functionaries of having dedication towards the farming community. They acknowledged the work of two extension officers and handed over certificate of appreciation to them on the occasion.

Farmers of Uri Sub Division participated in the mela and interacted with experts of agriculture and allied departments. On the occasion Director Agriculture inaugurated Farm Machinery Bank for Customer Hiring Centre established under Centrally Sponsored Schemes SMAM.

Earlier Director Agriculture kick started sale of vegetable seedlings at Wagoora Baramullah.
