Srinagar, Feb 12: Several sports organizations including J&K Ski & Mountaineering Association, District Srinagar Winter Games Association, Kashmir Roller Skating Club, Adventure Tourism Operators Association of Kashmir, JKSDA and Kashmir Rafting Operators Association have hailed J&K State Sports Council for constituting a new body for the next term and nominating a well-known adventurer and explorer, Rauf Tramboo, as member of the Council.

They expressed their delight and hoped that Rauf will help grow the hitherto neglected adventure sports in the state.

In its statement the JKSMA has said that adventure sports, though being job oriented, were not given focused attention by the Government.

“Our athletes have excelled in these sports at national and international levels but their performance is not recognized at high levels. They have faith in Rauf Sahib and are sure that he will plead their cases in the apex sports body of the state to bring back the glory of adventure sports in Jammu & Kashmir”, Muhammad Yusuf, a veteran adventure sports expert, who is believed to have played a pivotal role in promoting several winter sports activities in Kashmir and beyond, said.
