For fare hike, tax rollback; J&K transporters announce strike from Feb 24

Jammu, Feb 22: Transporters in Jammu on Monday announced an indefinite strike from February 24, demanding roll back of new taxes as well as an increase in public transport fares.

Transporters while addressing a press conference in Jammu said that their decision to go on indefinite strike from February 24 was the last choice ‘as transporters have always remained on receiving end of Government and never get their right without agitation.’

“In the lockdown period, no vehicle plied but we have to pay all taxes and amid soaring fuel prices, there is a need for an increase in fare,” said transporters.

“We will be on indefinite strike from February 24 onwards and no passenger vehicle will ply from Lakhanpur to Uri across Jammu and Kashmir UT”, they said.
