As ‘chakka jaam’ begins, farmer leaders ask protesters to be peaceful

ZT News Network

New Delhi, Feb 6: As the planned farmer ‘Chakka Jam’ is about to begin across the country, farmer leaders have asked the protesting farmers to remain peaceful.

The nationwide protest has been organised to build pressure on the central government to repeal the controversial farm laws.

“There will be no chakka jam programme inside Delhi since all the protest sites are already in a chakka jam mode. All roads for entering into Delhi will remain open except where farmers’ protest sites are already located,” a farmer union said in a statement.

A senior member of Samyukt Kisan Morcha has said the ‘chakka jam’ will remain completely peaceful and non-violent, adding that protesters have been asked not to indulge in any conflict with government officials or any citizen.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has taken additional measures this time, including tightening security and intensifying vigil at the city’s border points, to deal with any situation emerging out of the ‘chakka jam’.

Paramilitary forces have also been deployed at various parts of Delhi-NCR including borders.

Delhi Police has deployed around 40,000 personnel in and around the borders of the national capital. It also includes local police stations to keep a watch in their areas. At least 12 metro stations in Delhi have been put on alert.
