Live updates: New year’s big snow spell begins across J&K

Srinagar: New year’s big snow spell has begun across J&K, with snowfall being reported across Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh regions on Sunday. About 4 inches of snowfall has also been witnessed in capital Srinagar until 10 am.

This snow spell is likely to continue until Thursday across J&K, as per Ziraat Times Weather Outlook Issued earlier.

6:00 PM – Cluster University Srinagar postpones all exams scheduled on January 4

The Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) has postponed all the examinations scheduled to be held on January 04, 2021 (Monday) in view of the inclement weather conditions.
The controller examination CUS, Mir Khurshid Ahmad said the new dates for the postponed examinations will be notified separately later.

Kashmir University postpones all UG exams scheduled on January 4

All Kashmir University undergraduate examinations scheduled to be held on January 4, 2021 (Monday) are postponed in view of the inclement weather conditions.

New dates for the deferred examinations will be notified separately later, Controller of Examinations Prof Irshad A Nawchoo said in a statement.

11:15 AM : Jammu-Srinagar NHW Closed for traffic movement due to heavy snowfall around Jawahar Tunnel.

People are advised not to travel from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa till clearance of road

4 injured after passenger bus skids off road in Kangan

At least 4 persons were injured after a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and turned turtle near Ganiwan area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a passenger bus bearing registration No JKO1D 5574 carrying passengers while on way to Gund toward Kangan skidded off the road at Ganiwan, resulting in minor injuries to at least 4 persons.

He said that the police with the help of locals launched a rescue operation and the injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

About one foot of snowfall has been recorded at Jawahar Tunnel so until 10 am, resulting in the blockade of Srinagar-Jammu highway.
