Amid bird flu scare, Govt bans poultry imports into J&K

Srinagar: The government of Jammu and Kashmir Thursday decided to ban import of poultry into Union Territory in view of spread of bird flu in neighbouring states.

An order under number 09-ASH of 2021, dated 07-01-2021, issued by Principal Secretary to Government, Navin Choudhary, reads, “In the wake of spread of bird flu in neighbouring states of UT of J&K as a measure of abundant precaution and in view of declaration of whole J&K as “Controlled Area” for bird flu disease. In exercise of powers conferred under section 10 of the Prevention and Control of infectious and contagious Diseases Act, 2009, Government of UT J&K imposes complete ban on import of live birds including poultry and unprocessed poultry meat for any purpose into the Union Territory of J&K with immediate effect, till 14-01-2021.”

“The decision will be reviewed based on the evolving situation,” the order further added. —(KNO)
