No decision taken on licenses for opening liquor shops: Finance Department

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Sunday said that it has not taken any policy decision regarding issuance of fresh liquor licenses in unserved areas in Jammu & Kashmir.

“Finance department has not taken any policy decision regarding issuance of fresh liquor licenses in unserved areas. No list of unserved areas has either been considered,” J&K’s Department of Information and Public Relations tweeted on Sunday.

In another tweet, J&K government spokesman Rohit Kansal urges people not believe rumours or half- baked news.

The government issued a clarification after different groups slammed government’s proposed move to open liquor shops in Kashmir.

KNO reported yesterday that Excise Commissioner JK had mooted a proposal to set up 187 liqueur shops in UT of which 67 were for Kashmir. The proposal was submitted to Finance department for approval. —(KNO)
