Srinagar: This Ramzaan, people in Kashmir could have the opportunity to enjoy high quality Kashmir apples, coming straight out of the cold storages.
Market experts feel that this holy month of Ramzaan, quality fruit is unlikely to be available in markets. Due to big disruption to supply chains across the country, not much fruit, including dates is expected to be available in the markets.
And it is where local Kashmir apples could fill the gap.
“The good thing about the Kashmir apples is that they are already packed and require minimum human handling during transportation from cold stores to retail markets. “In our cold storages across Kashmir, we have a large quantity of apples, a part of which we wish to supply to local markets”, Maajid Wafai, president Kashmir Cold Storages Association.
While apple supplies from Kashmir have resumed to Azadpur Fruit Mandi this week, the good thing is that a large quantity could still be available for the local markets in Kashmir.
“It would be a great thing to have Kashmir apples during Ramzaan. Usually, we dont get fresh Kashmir apples in this season in the markets. So good to have such good source of iron during the holy month”, said Seher Shah, a housewife.
