Srinagar, Feb 26: Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union and the New Kashmir Fruit Association have welcomed the seizure of sub standard pesticides, insecticides, fungicides and fertilizers in South Kashmir districts of Kulgam and Pulwama.
In a statement to Ziraat Times, Bashir Ahmad Basheer, chairman and president of Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union and the New Kashmir Fruit Association said that the “Enforcement Wing of Agricultural & Production Framers Welfare Department have done a commendable job while seizing heaps of sub standard type of Pesticides, Insecticides, Fungicides and Fertilizers in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir, which clearly proves that the sale of substandard of these products are performed in the entire Valley causing heavy losses in fruits orchards of the Valley.”
“The valley based fruit growers and dealers, who are already suffering heavy losses since last several years due to one or the other reason, are extremely worried knowing the situation. under these circumstances the officers/officials connecting with Enforcement Wing of Agricultural & Production Framers Welfare Department in entire Valley needs to be strengthen more and more and surprise inspections in this regards are conducted round the clock by the Enforcement Wing Staff so that the sale of substandard type of Pesticides, Insecticides, Fungicides etc could be restricted and Valley Based Fruit Growers/Dealers of the Valley are saved from further losses on this account. Moreso the establishment of Testing Laboratories at Lakhanpur are essentially required so that the consignment of Pesticides, Insecticides, Fungicides and Fertilizers could be allowed to move forward only after suitable testing of these commodities are carefully conducted. The concerned Authorities are accordingly requested that the matter may kindly be taken up with concerned Government agencies”, the statement added.
“Meanwhile, action as warranted under rules may kindly initiated against the culprits involved in sale of substandard type of Pesticides, Insecticides, Fungicides and Fertilizers in Pulwama and Kulgam
Districts of South Kashmir”, Mr Bashir observed.
