Agri Dept unveils 28 varieties of high-yielding fodder crops at Aru Farm


ANANTNAG: Agriculture Department Kashmir today unveiled germ plasm bank of 28 varieties of high yielding Fodder Crops at Fodder Seed Production Scheme Aru.

The crops were unveiled during a visit by Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, who was accompanied by Joint Director Agriculture, Extension, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, Joint Director Agriculture, Inputs, Amir-Ud-Din Andrabi, Chief Agriculture Officer Anantnag M. Iqbal Khan and other concerned officers.


Pertinent to mention that the FSPS Aru is one of the highest producer of fodder seeds in the Agrostology Scheme, FSPS Aru have recorded boom in production of Pure Fodder seeds, one Metric Ton Of Pure seed was produced last year, I/C Research Assistant assured Director of at least 50% increase in Fodder crop seed produce. Farm is having 32 Hectares of land and the Fodder seeds including Sainfoin, Persian Clover, Crown Vetch, Bromus inermis, Denanath Grass, Guinea grass, Bermuda Grass, Sorghum, Tall Fescue, Berseem, Dactylis glomerata, Phalaris arundinacea, Bajra ,Chrysopogon aciculatus, Red Clover, Lolium Multiflorum, Lolium perenne, Timothy-grass, Red Fescue , Lupin, Lotus corniculatus, Poa Pratensis, Italian Rye, Phalaris Hybrid etc.


Director Agriculture also inspected Demonstration cum training centre of Apiculture (DCTC) at Mattan and took stock of ongoing Apicultural activities.


He instructed Chief Agricultural officer Anantnag to take up apiculture activities on priority. He directed the Chief Agriculture Officer to create his own brand of honey as Anantnag special for its unique availability of Flora in district Anantnag. He further said that Promotion of Mushroom and apiculture is a step towards employment generation.


Director Agriculture Kashmir also interacted with Agriculture technocrats at Sub Division Pahalgam and instructed them to Complete 100% target of KCC Cards without any delay, He stressed Agricultural technocrats to make Kisan PAKWADA program a success.


The Director was briefed by I/C Research Assistant FSPS Aru, Khursheed Ahmad regarding various developmental activities and latest technological initiatives taken up by the Farm management to boost the quality of Fodder seed production at the farm.
