Srinagar: Six people have been killed and nearly 90 injured in bear and leopard attacks across Kashmir since August 1, with the ongoing apple harvest bringing bears into closer contact with orchard workers and raising concerns over leopard attacks on children.

The apple harvesting season has increased human activity in orchards and adjoining areas, where bears may come into contact with workers. Meanwhile, leopard sightings and attacks have heightened concerns about the safety of children, particularly in areas close to forests and animal habitats.

The incidents have renewed attention on the growing human-wildlife conflict in Kashmir and the need for precautionary measures to protect residents, orchard workers and children.
