GST Council decisions to strengthen J&K’s fiscal position, support growth: CM Omar

New Delhi, October 8: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday attended the 57th meeting of the GST Council in New Delhi, expressing confidence that the decisions taken by the Council would strengthen Jammu & Kashmir’s fiscal position, support economic growth and accelerate development and public welfare.

The meeting was chaired by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and attended by Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers from across the country, along with senior officials of the Union Finance Ministry.

Omar Abdullah participated in the meeting in his capacity as Finance Minister of Jammu & Kashmir.

The Council held detailed deliberations on key Goods and Services Tax (GST)-related issues, with discussions focusing on strengthening the fiscal capacity of States and Union Territories, improving revenue mobilisation and advancing balanced fiscal federalism.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the outcomes of the meeting would help improve Jammu & Kashmir’s fiscal position and create further momentum for economic growth and development.
