J&K Bank marks 88th anniversary, directors pay tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh

JAMMU, OCTOBER 1: Jammu & Kashmir Bank marked its 88th anniversary on Thursday with a commemorative event at its Regional Business Centre in Jammu, where the bank’s management paid floral tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh, who founded the institution.

The event was chaired by J&K Bank Managing Director and CEO Amitava Chatterjee and attended by Executive Director Sudhir Gupta, Chief General Managers, General Managers and divisional heads. General Managers from the bank’s corporate headquarters participated through video conferencing.

The bank said the anniversary provided an occasion to reaffirm its commitment to serving customers in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh while maintaining business growth.

Addressing the gathering, Chatterjee said the bank’s responsibilities included providing financial services in the region and supporting economic activity while ensuring the institution remained financially sustainable for future generations.

He also acknowledged Maharaja Hari Singh’s role in supporting the establishment of the bank and referred to its original objective of providing financial support to the people and economy of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rs 1,902 crore sanctioned under Mission YUVA

The bank said it is the principal financier for Mission YUVA, the Jammu & Kashmir Government’s employment-generation programme.

According to the bank, it has so far sanctioned loans amounting to Rs 1,902 crore to nearly 40,000 entrepreneurs under the programme.

The bank also announced the launch of “YUVA UDAAN”, a video series featuring selected success stories of young entrepreneurs, on its official social media platforms.

Rs 46 crore spent on CSR

J&K Bank said it spent more than Rs 46 crore on corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives during the financial year 2025-26.

According to the bank, the expenditure covered initiatives in education, healthcare, environment and other social sectors.

Chatterjee also acknowledged the contribution of successive generations of employees and management to the bank’s operations and said the institution would continue to focus on its founding objectives while adapting to changing requirements.

The anniversary programme concluded with an emphasis on continuing the bank’s operations and growth while retaining its focus on Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
