LG Sinha presents appointment letters to 29 newly appointed JKPS officers

SRINAGAR, September 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday presented appointment letters to 29 newly selected officers of the Jammu Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service, urging them to uphold integrity, courage and compassion while discharging their responsibilities.

Addressing the newly appointed officers, Sinha said the appointment letters represented the trust of the people of Jammu Kashmir and carried a responsibility to safeguard their dignity, security and future.

He said the officers’ journey had only begun and that their primary mission would be public service, protection of citizens and upholding the rule of law.

“After your training, when you wear the khaki uniform, you will stand as a protective shield between the terrorist forces and organisations across the border and the ordinary citizens of Jammu Kashmir,” the Lieutenant Governor said, calling upon the officers to ensure a fear-free environment for citizens.

Sinha said the officers, after completing mandatory police training, would serve as guardians of peace, dignity and justice and would have to respond to evolving security challenges, including terrorism, radicalisation and emerging methods of terror financing involving cryptocurrency and money laundering.

He also urged the officers to combine authority with compassion and protect the rights of vulnerable sections of society while maintaining communal harmony.

Emphasising integrity in policing, Sinha told the officers to remember that the respect commanded by the uniform depended on their honesty, courage and conduct.

“You must resolve that, regardless of how difficult circumstances may become, you will choose integrity and duty,” he said, adding that the officers should wear the khaki uniform with pride while keeping their conscience closer to their hearts.

The Lieutenant Governor also praised the Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) for conducting what he described as an intense and transparent selection process, and for upholding fairness, impartiality and credibility.

He said the recruitment process since 2019 had established a new legacy of merit-based employment, enabling candidates from ordinary families, including those of vegetable vendors and labourers, to secure government positions on the basis of talent and hard work.

Sinha also recalled the contribution and sacrifices of Jammu Kashmir Police personnel in maintaining peace and harmony over the decades and called upon the newly appointed officers to uphold the force’s ethos of service and responsibility.

“Do not harass the innocent; do not spare the guilty,” he said, reiterating the guiding principle for the officers as they begin their careers.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, Commissioner Secretary, General Administration Department, M Raju, and senior officers of the Police and Civil Administration attended the ceremony.
