KCCI welcomes 2-year extension of LTC scheme for J&K; says move will boost tourism

Srinagar: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the Central Government’s decision to extend the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) facility for its employees to visit Jammu & Kashmir by another two years, saying the move will provide further impetus to the tourism sector and the wider local economy.

The Chamber said the extension was a “positive and timely decision” that would encourage government employees and their families to travel to Jammu & Kashmir.

KCCI said it had taken up the matter with the Central Government, seeking continuation of the LTC facility in view of its importance for the tourism industry and the wider economy of Jammu & Kashmir.

The Chamber appreciated the Government for considering its request and taking a favourable decision.

According to KCCI, tourism has a significant multiplier effect on the economy of Jammu & Kashmir, supporting hotels, houseboats, restaurants, transporters, travel agencies, guides, handicraft businesses and other allied sectors.

It said increased tourist movement under the LTC scheme would consequently benefit a wide range of stakeholders across the Union Territory.

The Chamber expressed hope that the extended LTC provision would contribute to sustained tourist arrivals and strengthen confidence in Jammu & Kashmir as a preferred travel destination.

KCCI also urged the Central and UT Governments to continue taking measures to facilitate travel, improve connectivity and promote Jammu & Kashmir as a safe, attractive and accessible destination for domestic tourists.
