Ziraat Times Team Report

Srinagar, Jul 13: Jammu & Kashmir will showcase its textile and handicraft strengths alongside leading textile-producing states and global industry players at Bharat Tex 2026, India’s largest international textile exhibition, which begins in New Delhi on Monday with participation from more than 20 countries, over 7,000 buyers and 1,600 exhibitors.

The four-day event, to be inaugurated by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh at Bharat Mandapam, is expected to provide Jammu & Kashmir with a significant platform to promote its globally recognised textile heritage—including pashmina, wool, silk, carpets, handlooms and handicrafts—to international buyers, investors and policymakers.

Organised by the Bharat Tex Trade Federation with the support of the Ministry of Textiles, Bharat Tex has emerged as India’s flagship global textile event, bringing together the country’s entire textile value chain under one roof. Jammu & Kashmir is among nine States and Union Territories participating as exhibitors, while eight states are taking part as partner states.

The exhibition is expected to attract more than 1.3 lakh trade visitors and showcase over 20,000 textile products spread across 1.6 million square feet of exhibition space. Besides Indian exhibitors, companies and institutions from 14 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Portugal, Spain, South Korea, South Africa and New Zealand, will also participate.

For Jammu & Kashmir, whose economy has long relied on traditional crafts and high-value natural fibres, participation in Bharat Tex offers an opportunity to expand exports, attract investment and explore new markets for its artisan-based industries.

Industry experts believe the event could help strengthen market linkages for the Union Territory’s handloom and handicraft sectors by connecting producers with international sourcing companies, fashion brands, exporters and technology providers.

The event is expected to facilitate over 4,000 business-to-business meetings, more than 100 business-to-government interactions and the signing of over 30 memoranda of understanding covering trade, investment, sustainability, technology and market access.

A major attraction will be more than 100 knowledge sessions, including panel discussions, roundtables and masterclasses focusing on trade, sustainability, technical textiles, innovation, Industry 5.0, fashion, policy reforms and export competitiveness. These sessions are expected to benefit micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and help manufacturers align with emerging global market trends.

International engagement will remain a key feature of the event, with ministerial delegations and business representatives from countries including New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Cambodia, Brunei, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Russia, Bangladesh, the UAE and Thailand expected to participate. Special bilateral sessions will focus on textile cooperation with key global partners.

Digital business platforms, including a dedicated mobile application and AI-assisted buyer-seller matchmaking tools, will support networking, scheduling of meetings and business transactions throughout the exhibition.

Built around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘5F’ vision—Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign—Bharat Tex 2026 aims to position India as a global leader in sustainable, technology-driven and resilient textile manufacturing while strengthening international trade and investment partnerships.

For Jammu & Kashmir, the event offers an opportunity to reinforce its place in India’s textile landscape by showcasing its unique natural fibres, traditional craftsmanship and value-added textile products before a global audience at one of the country’s largest textile business platforms.
