Jammu, July 1: Two major infrastructure projects on the strategically important National Highway-44—an 810-metre-long viaduct near Ramsoo in Ramban district and the 3.5-km AT-03 tunnel connecting Digdole to Panthyal—will be opened to traffic on July 3, significantly improving all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar.
The new infrastructure is expected to facilitate smoother and safer movement of local commuters, tourists, freight vehicles and security forces while bypassing landslide-prone stretches of the highway. The projects are also expected to ensure safer and more seamless travel for pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
Welcoming the completion of the projects, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for what he described as another milestone in strengthening Jammu & Kashmir’s road infrastructure.
In a statement, the Lieutenant Governor said the two projects reflect the Centre’s continued commitment to transforming road connectivity in the Union Territory.
“Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji, for transforming J&K’s highways and road connectivity. The completion of the 810-metre-long viaduct near Ramsoo and the 3.5-km AT-03 Tunnel connecting Digdole to Panthyal on NH-44 is yet another monumental feat,” he said.
He added that the new infrastructure would provide reliable all-weather connectivity while enhancing road safety by avoiding vulnerable sections prone to landslides and disruptions.
The projects form part of the ongoing efforts to modernise the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, the Union Territory’s primary surface transport corridor linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
